carry-on for wayward whimsy
I'm glad you're back. And realized that after looking at your reading list, we're working on two of the same - To Say Nothing of the Dog and A Year of Magical Thinking. I just finished Doomsday Book which is the unofficial "prequel" to Say Nothing of the Dog. I'm not sure how I feel about Connie Willis. I find her writing to be funny, but redundant, and her characters witty but unattachable. But something about this book has stuck with me. Probably all the very graphic medical descriptions. I'm also still working on the Iliad, but god it's tedious. I jsut put that on my list to look good.
Speaking of tedious, I'm embarrassed by how long it's taken me to read both of these books, books i -really- like. books that aren't that long. I don't know if this happens to you, but I seem to go through phases where i'm not up for extensive reading. I think it started after getting my ipod. Lately instead of reading during my commute I put the ipod on shuffle and play "name that tune" with myself. Waiting for the pendulum to swing back... Never knew it would get so hard to keep up with all my consuming needs -- books, movies, music... (sugar)never heard of Doomsday Book. will definitely have to add it to the stockpile.
