Thou Shalt Not Covet a Closet

To end today’s en FUEGO barrage of posts (someone will be working all weekend) on a happy and superficial note, this closet is so pretty. As compared to the feeling one gets when gazing into the parade of neutrals otherwise known as my closet, I can’t imagine facing this color explosion every morning with anything other than sheer glee. This person must be independently wealthy. Or have the best job in the world.

I Second That

I don't know, I like it. I confess to being able to burp on command. I can say entire phrases while burping. I could probably sing a song in burp. But I wouldn't. I have limits. Still, it's a skill that's proven quite helpful during bouts of motion sickness and the like. Therefore, I must give burps credit where credit is due by way of this here blue burp monster. Ok, someone needs to go to bed.

I've admired DWR's cubitec shelving for ages, mostly drooling over it in shops and cafes and the like. They're euro casual, sturdy, and I just love the foggy appearance. A Thing for Chairs

I've got one. My taste runs the gamut, though lately my thing seems to focus on mid-century and colorful contemporary designs. I thought of said obsession after resting eyes on this beaut by William Emmerson. Ever.so.lovely. Animalistic. Yet graceful. It sort of looks like a giraffe to me, with its long narrow top, hyperextended legs and gorgeous stable paws. Not that I could ever afford a two thousand dollar chair, but it's a good thing there's no room to walk in my place let alone place another chair. I'm resigned to window shopping and mental noting for when I win that lotto. Goooooooo TEAM!

Judging a Book by Its Cover

Thanks to ASWOBA, I was reminded this morning of the covers chosen for the 2008 Book Design Review. Take a look for some very creative book cover art. And speaking of cover art, I'll take this opportunity to refer anyone not familiar with Storm Thorgerson to his work, much of which has ended up on album cover art through the decades. I could look at his stuff for hours. So unique and creative it almost hurts.

A Thing For This Room

I've got one. Can you blame me? So simple. So cozy. So vaulted. So nooked. So paneled. So textured. So sky blue. So splashed with red. Oh, to have a little guest room like this in my nonexistent house. Is it weird that I can't stop looking and pretending I'm in it?

My only request: kindly remove those paper scraps out from under the bedside table. Pronto. You're messing with perfection, people.

Holy Scarf!

Now this is what I'm talkin' about. Utilitarian runway fashion. Sure, you'd struggle to breathe, you couldn't see a damn thing (all the better to ignore the pointing and laughing), and your commute would be pure hell what with all the cramming into crowded spaces. But you would be toasty warm. Pass-out warm (with no fear of head injury!). Where can I get me one of these? Very subtle. And slimming too. Imagine how small this would make you look. Like Lily Tomlin in that big chair.

A Thing For Ampersands

I've got one. I know they're pretty, but what I never knew was that an ampersand is a "ligature" of the letters e and t in "et," which is Latin for "and." The word itself (ampersand) is a combination of the phrase "and per se and," meaning "and [the symbol which] by itself [is] and." Whoa. Good thing they came up with the pretty squiggle. Otherwise, what's the bloody point?

My friend, Craig

I've been on the prowl for new kitchen chairs for awhile now. My furniture friend, Craig Slist, has almost single-handedly hooked me up over my years here in Chicago, but nothing I'd seen there recently was quite right, and all the new options I've been eyeing are too expensive to justify. Just when I'd decided to hold steady with my red IKEA hand-me-downs, lo and behold, I lucked out and scored these tulip-like chairs for practically free. They're not Saarinen and obviously have a propellor bottom instead of the tulip's classic circular bottom, but I really like them all the same. They were made by a Texas company called Burke around the same time as tulips, so they're not exactly a knock-off either.

Now I must figure out how to reupholster the seats, which are currently covered in an unfortunate black vinyl. I wonder if I'll need much more than a choice fabric and a staple gun, since the seats easily remove via bolts on the bottom? If anyone out there has any tips, I'd be most grateful!
